A whole house low energy renovation of an existing 1950’s detached bungalow. The property had been vacant for over four years and was non habitable.
The design includes the demolition of an existing garage and bay window, new gable to the front of the property to create a new entrance hall and access to the first floor. The existing roof is re tiled and changed from a hipped to gable roof at both ends of the property with new dormers; two to the rear and to the front of the property. A new pitched roof garage extension to side of property houses a new garage, utility and shower room.
The existing walls will be upgraded with external wall insulation. Solar thermal and PV tiles provide renewable energy to the property. All existing windows and doors will also be upgraded.
The proposals will change the internal layout of the existing property to create an open plan kitchen/dining/living area at ground floor supporting modern day living, with an office and bedroom also located on the ground floor. A utility and shower room, will be located in the new garage extension, with direct access to outside, and two ensuite bedrooms at first floor in the current loft space. It was important that the renovation drastically improved the environmental performance of the existing building, creating a low energy property.
