Dulwich Estate, low energy refurbishment and extension
College Road is a detached property located within the Dulwich Estate. The client brief was to transform the external appearance of the property whilst also creating additional internal space, creating a modern contemporary family home.
The existing 1960’s property had been extended over the years, creating an untidy front elevation to the property. Internally the property had a series of individual rooms on each floor, with no connection to each other, accessed by a long corridor.
The solution was to open up the property with a ground floor extension to create a large open plan kitchen/dining /living space with a direct connection to the rear garden. The existing loft and roof has been replaced to create an additional bedroom, shower room, cinema room and plant room on the second floor. The entrance to the property has been improved by creating a new gable on the front elevation with large triple height glazed window containing a new feature staircase. The property has also been externally rendered, creating a contemporary facade to the property.
As well as specifying high levels of insulation for the new extension, the existing building has been retrofitted with additional insulation to improve both the thermal performance and acoustics of the existing property.
Work was carefully planned by the main contractor as all construction work was completed without requiring the residents to move out of the property.
