Janeway Street is a semi detached property located in the Wilson Grove Conservation area of Southwark. The existing property was in poor condition and in need of repair refurbishment.
The proposed works included a new side and rear extension to create a large open plan living, dining and cooking space along with a separate shower room and a better connection to the rear garden. The external materials complement those of the existing building using brick and render but also include vertical timber cladding to the rear elevation. The first floor layout was reconfigured with the staircase flipped to make better use of the space and provide a generous family bathroom.
The existing property was extensively retrofitted to achieve the EnerPhit Passivhaus refurbishment standard. The work includes internal wall insulation, a new insulated floor slab, loft insulation, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and Passivhaus certified triple glazed windows. Construction details for the project have been carefully considered to ensure continuity of airtightness and to eliminate thermal bridging.
