Passivhaus, Dulwich Estate
Stillness Road is an end of terrace Victorian property located in Brockley Rise. The clients wanted to extend at ground floor and in the loft to create an open plan kitchen/diner and master bedroom with ensuite.
The new extension at ground floor wraps around the existing property and includes a set of bifold doors opening out onto a sunken patio and a separate door opening onto a side courtyard which includes a bike store and access to the street. A brise soleil is recessed into the new rear elevation, providing high level shading to the bifold doors. The new extension has a direct connection to the existing property via a set of double doors into a new family room. Clad in reclaimed brick the ground floor extension has been designed to blend with the existing building.
The property benefits from a great view across Blythe Hill and so a set of sliding doors onto a Juliet balcony has been included in the master bedroom in the loft. The ensuite is located in the pitched section of the roof, maximising the space for the master bedroom. The dormer is clad in anthra zinc, creating a modern contemporary design to the proposed extension.
The existing property had poor levels of insulation and so the extensions along with insulation to the roof and floor will considerably improve the energy performance of the property.
